Celtic play Inter Milan in Limerick this weekend and while some people haven’t been too happy about it, I have to say that for Celtic it is absolutely the right thing to do.

I also believe that if any other club was invited to do what Celtic have done and postpone a league fixture to go and play in the ICC tournament that they would have done exactly the same thing.

It is also an opportunity to raise the profile of the league as a whole and at a time when we need as much good press as we can get then I don’t think that it a bad thing.

The other aspect, too, is that Celtic have a crucial UEFA Champions League play-off tie awaiting them next week against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

To me, this is the perfect way to prepare for a game of that magnitude. I am sure it will be similar to the game against Barcelona in Dublin where we will see a raft of changes in the second period but it gives the manager an opportunity to play about with formations and get some players time on the pitch without worrying too much about the outcome.

It is the kind of high profile game that they can go and enjoy and it gives them the chance to play at a level that they know they’ll need to be at this week when they go up against Hapoel.

It is ideal in that respect but also there is not a significant amount of travel involved either so it is not as if it will be taxing on the players in that respect. It is a good way to round off their involvement in the ICC, a tournament that I am sure the club will have deemed to have been worthwhile.
