Police have provided an update after Celtic star Matt O'Riley was allegedly attacked at Ibrox.

We previously reported Celtic said the 23-year-old footballer had a glass bottle thrown at him during the Rangers v Celtic clash on Sunday, April 7.

Following the shocking incident, the team hit out at the 'repeated targeting' of their players and staff with 'missiles'.

They also said it was 'quite appalling’ and completely unacceptable'.

Now, cops have said they are investigating an object being thrown onto the pitch at Ibrox during the match.

Officers revealed there were no injuries during the incident.

During the game, the clubs drew 3 - 3 with goals from Daizen Maeda, Matt O'Riley, Adam Idah, James Tavernier, Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo.

A spokesperson for Celtic said: "It has been confirmed today that a glass bottle was thrown at Matt O'Riley at yesterday’s match.

"The repeated targeting of our players and staff with missiles is quite appalling and completely unacceptable.

"We have already raised our serious concerns with Rangers and understand that police are investigating the matter."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We are aware of an object being thrown onto the pitch at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow during the Rangers v Celtic match on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

"There were no injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
