Rangers legend Ronald de Boer believes "it's about time" his former club won the Scottish Premiership.

The Light Blues are chasing their first league title since the 2020/21 season, and sit two points behind leaders Celtic with a game in hand.

De Boer, who was at Rangers between 2000 and 2004, has been watching from afar and is impressed by what he's seen under Philippe Clement.

Although, the Dutchman reckons Clement’s predecessors have also played their part in putting Rangers in the strong position they are now.

Speaking on the BBC Sportsound's latest podcast ahead of Scotland's international friendly match with The Netherlands, he said: "Philippe is doing great, but the previous managers had their success like Gio (Van Bronckhorst) reaching the (Europa League) Final. Before that, Steven Gerrard also did really well.

"For me, everybody has played a part of the success where the club are standing now. Philippe is doing great, they were unlucky against Benfica but I still think they can be proud.

"And now they're fighting for the league title when previously Celtic were walking away with it at this stage of the season.

"Now Rangers are 100 per cent fully involved in it which is great. I think every Rangers supporter wants their team to be fighting for the Championship and it's about time that Rangers are crowned champions again."
