Rangers have been told they have missed a trick by letting Borna Barisic run down his contract.

Barisic, 31, has been a stalwart in the Rangers side since arriving from Osijek six years ago. He’s went on to make over 230 appearances for the Light Blues, but with his current deal set to expire in the summer, it’s expected the Croatian internationalist will depart the club for free.

It’s a sense of deja-vu for the Scottish Premiership giants after key stars Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent were both allowed to leave for nothing last season, despite being touted to earn huge fees throughout their Rangers’ career.

And former Celtic striker Andy Walker reckons Philippe Clement’s Gers should be doing more to get a return on their investments.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, he said: "I think he has been really good. His crossing just as a left-back has been really good.

"It is probably not the best business move to let someone as good as that go to the end of their contract and move for nothing.

“Ideally you want to try and get money for any player who has been there for that amount of time before he comes to the end of his contract."
