Scotland will have a right go at Euro 2024, according to former midfielder Charlie Adam.

Adam, 38, has been impressed by the progress made during Steve Clarke's tenure and is backing them to make a positive account of themselves in Germany this summer.

The 25-time capped retired internationalist also reckons Clarke's squad will have learned a lot from their last major tournament experience three years ago and can use that to reach the next level when they face Germany, Hungary and Switzerland hoping to progress past the group stage for the first time in 11 attempts.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, he said: "I think if you look at where we've been, it's our second tournament out of three now. I think Steve (Clarke) has done a wonderful job.

"I think the group is a good group to be in. We play against the host nation first which is great that we open the tournament. It's going to be a real party atmosphere for these Scotland fans. We didn't want to go to Qatar anyway, it's too far.

"But listen, I think it's an opportunity for Scotland to really affect the Euros. We will be disappointed in terms of what happened the last time and the performance, so I think this group of players will have learned from that, Steve will have learned from that.

"I think he will have a right go at it and I'm delighted that we've managed to get there."
