Greg Taylor acknowledges Celtic's defensive injury crisis has been far from ideal - but believes it's in their remit to battle through the 'frustration' and continue winning football matches.

Celtic have been ravaged with key players suffering setbacks throughout the 2023/24 campaign. The latest being Liam Scales picking up a knock in training just as Cameron Carter-Vickers was set to return alongside him to help stabilise the Hoops' backline.

Taylor has had his own spell on the sidelines this season and opened up about how the lack of continuity has affected Celtic, who are now two points behind rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership title race, at times.

He said: “You would rather have strong relationships and to be continuous, but this season it’s been chopping and changing in terms of injuries, myself included.

“That’s been a frustration for all of us, and the manager included, but it’s one of the challenges of the season and one of the challenges of being a footballer.

“So you’ve just got to form the new partnerships quickly and gel, and look at each game as it comes.”

Celtic remain without captain Callum McGregor until after the international break, which begins next week, and Taylor realises the importance of senior players stepping up and leading by example during his absence.

He added: “I don’t know if it’s about talking more, I talk regularly as it is!

“But I understand it is part and parcel of being one of the more experienced ones and being here for the bit longer, that you need to take on more roles and responsibilities.

"Hopefully we can get those guys back quicker rather than later and we can all try and push in the one direction.

“We spoke about it in the last game, that’s important because obviously you’re missing Callum, who’s our captain. He’s the most vocal, he’s the leader, he speaks so well, and then you’ve got Cameron who I think is probably a different type of leader.

“He leads by example so I think we understood that it’s important that the rest of us try to help when they’re gone.”
