JORDAN THOMPSON hopes his former Rangers hero Steven Davis can inspire Northern Ireland as they look to shine at Euro 2016.

Midfielder Davis will skipper Michael O’Neil’s side in their matches with Poland, Ukraine and Germany as the Green and White Army prepare for a summer to remember on the continent.

Like Scotland players and supporters, Ibrox kid Thompson will have to watch the action unfold from a far as Northern Ireland, England and Wales bid for glory in France next month.

And the 19-year-old is confident his countrymen can put on a good showing with former Light Blues captain Davis leading the way in France.

He said: “I am away on holiday but I was trying to get tickets when they came out. I am struggling to get a ticket. I come back on the 11th from holiday so I will definitely be watching the first game on the 12th.

“It is massive, I think most of the country is going over to watch it!

“I would have loved to have been there. The recognition Northern Ireland are getting is great.

“I was at the last qualifier against Greece, I got two tickets and me and my mate went. The atmosphere was unbelievable. Hopefully they do well out there.

“Steven Davis is a great player and he is different class. When he was at Rangers I looked up to him and, being Northern Ireland captain, he is a role model for me and a great person to look up to.

“I am a bit like him in terms of my game but he is a great midfielder with loads of experience. I love watching him and I can learn from him every time I see him play.”
