TOM ROGIC is the next Celtic player set to be teed up on a long-term contract.

The Parkhead side have extended the deals of Nir Bitton, Leigh Griffiths and James Forrest already this term and Rogic is the next name on the agenda.

Speaking after Celtic re-established a three-point lead at the top of the SPFL following their 2-0 win over Ross County on Saturday afternoon, Ronny Deila said:“He is definitely one of the players that we would like to keep and we are working towards that just now.

“We talk all the time and we are always looking to work on the squad. He is one of the players that we would like to tie up on a long-term deal.

“He’s very important in our team. He has a lovely technique, he has innovation and is creative. The technical aspect he has is the top level.

“Tom needs to get his fitness now because he has been out for a few months. He only actually joined in training at the end of the week so he is still got to reach match fitness but it is a positive thing that he is back.

“Last season he was out for so long that I barely knew who he was. But he took the advice we gave him, he got fit and this season he took his chance.

“He has been unlucky to miss the last few months but he has played a lot of football this season for us, a lot of games, and hopefully now he can have a role to play as we chase the title and Scottish Cup.

“He has a lot of things that are difficult to get in a player which is we want to keep him here.

“We also have Charlie Mulgrew and Kris Commons back which is good and the only long-term problem we have now is Jozo [Simunovic].”

And Rogic himself has confirmed that he would be delighted to commit his long-term future to the club.

The Australian midfielder was linked with a move to Leeds earlier in the season and while he has admitted that a move to the Barclays Premier League is his ultimate ambition, he is enjoying the chance to learn his trade with Celtic after a torrid 18-months with injury.

“[The Premiership] is sort of a dream for everyone,” said Rogic. “The Premier League is a league that every kid grows up wanting to play in. I think it’s the most exciting league in the world.”

“But sometimes you don't realise how big this club is or what it means.

“But I think to be able to play your home football in that stadium and represent the club is something that I really enjoy and don’t take for granted. It is enjoyable, especially on the back of last season when I had a difficult time.

“To come through now, play regularly this season and score a few goals has been satisfying.”
