MARK WARBURTON insists the changing shape of the Championship title race hasn’t altered his shopping plans for the January transfer window.

Rangers have seen their lead at the top of the table reduced to just goal difference after a defeat to promotion rivals Hibernian and draw with Livingston this month.

Warburton enjoyed considerable success in the transfer market as he overhauled the Light Blues squad during the summer.

And there will be no change of outlook in the coming weeks as he bids to bolster his ranks for the second half of the campaign.

Warburton said: “Not at all. If we had played five, lost three and drawn one then I think we’d have to look more closely.

“But the fact is other teams have improved their form. All credit to Hibs and the other teams.

“Putting a run together is difficult. They have closed the gap on the back of their form, not on the back of our form.

“We have taken 37 points from 42. It’s not bad shape. I was being told next door (in the press conference with broadcast media) to avoid the crisis. Wow, that was interesting.

“It hasn’t changed. We know what we need. We just need one or two.

“Our squad is young. I’m referring to Martyn Waghorn as a senior pro at 25.

“That’s great for the long-term future of the club, but we have to recognise they are young boys and we need one or two for that heavy period in February and March.”

After dropping two crucial points against Livi last weekend, Rangers head into the Petrofac Training Cup clash with St Mirren tomorrow determined to get back to winning ways.

And Warburton insists he is content with the position the Light Blues find themselves in at this stage of the campaign.

He said: "I keep reading that (our goals have dried up) and I'm amazed by it. Our goal difference is plus 31 after 14 games.

"We're in a situation where at the start teams saw how we were going to play and quite naturally are now putting eight, nine and 10 men behind the ball. I understand that.

"Teams will do what they have to do to win a game of football. That's perfectly natural.

“We have to deal with it but it's tough to break down compact defences with that number of men.

"I read one comment in the paper that Rangers had been sussed out. Well teams are not going to come and play the way we want them to.

"We have to find solutions, which we will do. But when I hear people saying the goals have dried up I find it amazing.

“We've got 37 points out of 42. That's not a bad record."
