Jozo Simunovic has set his sights on being part of a winning Celtic side after checking in from Dinamo Zagreb.

The Croatian under-21 internationalist completed his move to the Parkhead side on the cusp of the 11pm Europa League deadline on Tuesday evening in a deal that amounts to just over £5m.

With Virgil van Dijk making the move to Southampton in a £13m deal, all eyes will be on Simunovic as he seeks to fill the void replaced by the Dutchman.

And he believes he can make a seamless transition from Croatia to Glasgow as Ronny Deila's side look to land a domestic Treble this season as well as make inroads into the Europa League.

The Parkhead side have been paired against Ajax, Fenerbahce and Molde and the experience that Simunovic has will be crucial in helping him to settle straight into Deila's side.

“When I found out about the club wanting me I was really happy,” the defender told celticfc.net. “It’s the first time a club has come in for me and I feel in myself that I want to and can do really well for Celtic.

“I have been at Dinamo for nine years and I joined when I was very young. It was a great time for me because Dinamo is the best club in Croatia. We were champions every year so I want to continue to win lots of titles and that’s one of the reasons why I came here.

“I want to be a champion. I want to continue winning titles and be successful.

“I look on this as a great move for me. Celtic have watched me and they know what I can do and how I play so I'm just going to try to continue to do that.

“Every day I’ll try to rise up, learn and hopefully that’ll be good for me and the club.”
