BARRY FERGUSON believes his side deserved more than to crash out of a cup competition away to Livingston for the second time in a week, after a 1-0 defeat saw them eliminated from the League Cup.

A stunning strike in extra-time from Jordan White was enough to edge out the Bully Wee after a largely even game, but Ferguson believes that matching their Championship opponents for most of the game will boost their confidence ahead of their League Two campaign.

“I thought we were the better team second half, we put them under the cosh a bit,” Ferguson said.

“I gave them respect, but I knew that the longer the game went on the more they would start to panic and that’s the way it panned out.

“I think we can get a wee bit better on the ball, but we’re only really four and a half weeks into getting to know each other. We deserved more out of the game.

“I can’t fault the fitness levels, they’re scary for a part-time club. That’s all down to the boys working hard in training.

“I thought we finished stronger in the ninety minutes, and looked better in extra-time.

“We had more chances in the second half, in the first half the game plan was to go and frustrate them.

“They weren’t going to hurt us with our two banks of four, and they never really cut us open.”

Elsewhere, Albion Rovers were also knocked out of the competition as Raith Rovers comfortably defeated Darren Young’s men 3-0.

Lewis Vaughan converted an early penalty before Kyle Benedictus added a second before half-time.

Rory McKeown wrapped things up for Ray McKinnon’s men before the hour.

Gus MacPherson’s Queen's Park went down 2-0 to Forfar, with Derek Young and Danny Denholm on target for Dick Campbell’s side in the first half.
