ALAN ARCHIBALD has been left frustrated in his striker search as the Partick Thistle boss looks to bolster his Firhill forward line.

The Jags are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements after missing out on Lyle Taylor earlier this summer but have been unable to get a deal over the line so far.

Winger David Amoo arrived from Carlisle earlier this summer, while keeper Tomas Cerny and right-back Gary Miller are the only other fresh faces at the club ahead of the new top flight campaign.

Thistle kick-off their third Premiership season at Hamilton on Saturday and Archibald will keep up the search as he looks to add quality to his forward line.

He said: “It has been the main priority for some time and it has been very frustrating.

“It is hard because we have only got Kris Doolan and it is not fair on him to only have that on his shoulders and to lead us through a season.

“Ryan Stevenson can play up there as well but his preferred position is behind the striker so we need to get someone in.

“We have not been sitting back, we have been actively trying to do it right over the summer and it just hasn’t happened for us.

“It is harder to do deals for strikers. We have offered contracts to players and they didn’t want to come, so they have got nothing.

“They are unemployed at the moment but they know that they can hold off.

“Someone will always take a punt on a striker and everyone is always desperate for good strikers.

“It is frustrating for the club and it is frustrating for me as a manager.

“It can put you off the player if he doesn’t want to come and play. There are good offers on the table but they would rather sit off for a couple of weeks, which I find bizarre.”
