HE is the lifelong Light Blue born and raised in the shadow of Ibrox that is now living the dream for his boyhood heroes.

But it is on the other side of Glasgow that Andy Halliday could have made his entrance into the world as mum Lynne celebrated an Old Firm triumph.

The 23-year-old grew up in a house full of Bluenoses and followed Rangers home and away before he got the chance to pursue his career in the game.

His journey has taken him back to Ibrox after he was handed a deal by boss Mark Warburton and he could make his debut against Burnley this evening.

And the former Middlesbrough and Bradford star is relieved he didn’t upset dad Colin by arriving early in the East End more than two decades ago.

Halliday said: “My first Rangers game was an Old Firm game when my mum was pregnant, before I was even born I was going to Rangers games!

“I got my first season ticket at four years old and kept it until I was 20 and I moved to England, even after I became a full-time player at 17 when I could only really get to Sunday games and some of the away matches.

“I still managed to get to a few games last year - the play-off matches, a few during the season as well.

“She loves telling that story. She told me it the other day - again! I’ve heard it umpteen times.

“She was going to call me Mark after Mark Hateley, because he scored a double that day.

“That’s the full story, but I don’t like the first name Mark so I’m buzzing she chose something else.

“She was about nine months gone, ready to drop - there would have been a ruckus had she dropped me at Parkhead. My old man would have gone mental!

“My mum is on holiday, booked it months ago, so she won’t be there for the Burnley match.

“She’s not happy, but my dad will be there. She’ll be back for the game on Saturday at Hibs.”
