Who was Alexander Hamilton?
Alexander Hamilton was one of America's most influential Founding Fathers, rising to become George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War.
An immigrant from the West Indies and son of Ayrshire-born James A Hamilton, the country's first-ever Secretary of Treasury helped write the Federalist Papers - a series of essays promoting the ratification of the United States Constitution.
Later in life, he was embroiled in the Reynolds affair where it became public knowledge that he was involved in an affair with 23-year-old Maria Reynolds.
In 1804, Alexander Hamilton died after engaging in a duel with Vice President Aaron Burr on the bank of the Hudson River.
