George Bowie has paid tribute to a GBX favourite following a shock diagnosis.

The radio presenter took to social media to share a heartfelt message to the Scottish techno group Ultra Sonic after they announced their member, Mallorca Lee, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The music group are known for their hits "Obsession" and "Love Me Right".

However, sadly, last night, the band took to social media to share the devastating news.

Ultra Sonic said: "I've been diagnosed with terminal cancer, the doctors said it could be a matter of months.

"I apologise for not telling all of my family and friends individually, it just breaks my heart a thousand times and I don't have the strength to go through it all over and over again.

"I love you all, the last 10 years have been the best of them all, it really has been wonderful.

"Forgive, me if I don't answer your calls and messages, I'm still processing, even this post feels like someone else is writing it.

"Love, that's all we ever really have, our one true currency, so tell the ones around you what they mean to you every day.

"Love, Mall."

In a touching tribute, George Bowie said: "This is absolutely devastating news.

"Can't begin to say how I broken I am by this."

Meanwhile, heartbroken fans shared their sadness about the news on social media.

One said: "Devastated is all I can say."

Another said: "So sorry to hear this.

"No idea what to say. You've definitely left your mark on the world, all over it.

"You've influenced so many people and made a lot of people very happy.

"Absolutely gutted."

While a third added: "So sorry - actually so gutted."
