An iconic neighbourhood pub will close permanently today in another blow to East Kilbride town centre.

The Tower Bar has been operating for nearly 60 years, but Belhaven Group have confirmed their decision to close the watering hole amid a drop in customers.

Located in the Princes Square shopping centre, the pub is known for its homemade pub fare and drinks selection.

While an official announcement has yet to be made by The Tower, Belhaven confirmed to the Glasgow Times that the last day of trading would be Tuesday.

The booze firm claimed they were hoping to find new roles for staff at other Belhaven pubs in the area.

A spokesperson for Belhaven said: “After running The Tower Bar for a number of years, we have seen our customer numbers decrease and we have now taken the difficult decision to close.

"We have informed the team and are aiming to find them new roles at our other pubs in the area.

"Our final day will be Tuesday 20th June and we would like to thank all our customers who have supported the Tower Bar over the years.”

The announcement comes after a number of recent blows to East Kilbride town centre.

We reported in November 2022 that Sapphire, the owner of EK, East Kilbride, went into administration just weeks before Christmas.

It was also reported in March 2023 that Aerial Adventures, based in the town's shopping centre, had suddenly closed its doors.
