A fundraising event for a North Lanarkshire charity that empowers individuals with visual impairments has raised close to £700.

The Every Cuppa Counts cake and coffee morning took place on April 20 at Plains Evangelical Church in aid of Guide Dogs North Lanarkshire. A total of £675 raised.

Provost Kenneth Duffy lauded the organisation's efforts and thanked the community for their support during the event.

He said: "Events like these show the true spirit of our community, where individuals come together to make a meaningful difference to the lives of others.

"I’d like to thank Guide Dogs North Lanarkshire for organising this very successful fundraiser and in particular, the wonderful efforts of Francis and Sharon from the NL fundraising group, and to Plains Evangelical Church for hosting the event.

He joined attendees and three guide dog puppies to raise awareness of the role played by volunteers in training guide dogs.

Guide Dogs North Lanarkshire is a local branch of the Guide Dogs UK charity which helps visually impaired individuals to live confidently and independently. 

Through its guide dog training programmes and support services, the charity aims to break down barriers and create a more inclusive society.
