A Glasgow air hostess used to rely on seat belt extenders before dropping six stones.

Jamie-Lee Brown used to feel very “uncomfortable” on planes before landing her dream job working for Virgin Atlantic last year.

The 24-year-old, from Possil Park, was almost 17 stone but after dropping five dress sizes she gained the confidence to apply for her wings.

We previously reported how after joining Slimming World she became unrecognisable to her former colleagues when returning to a restaurant she had previously worked at.

Now she is no longer “scared to enjoy herself” and is jetting across the world and travelling for work.

Jamie-Lee said: “Losing weight gave me the confidence to apply for Virgin Atlantic.

“I used to be so uncomfortable on planes as I needed a seatbelt extender, now I love flying as an air steward.

“A fear of mine used to be people looking at me but now I love walking down the airport in my uniform and feeling passengers stare.

“Being a big lassie made me shy, I had always wanted to travel but was scared to go enjoy myself.

“Now my new job and confidence lets me do it, my life has completely changed.”

Jamie-Lee first decided to lose weight in January 2022 after a trip to Berlin with her parents.

She struggled to use public transport and felt insecure about how she looked and vowed to make a change.

It was then she joined Slimming World and swapped her daily takeaways for home cooked meals.

Jamie-Lee said: “Everything was difficult because of my size, I was even struggling to even blow dry my hair.

“I felt constantly warm, sweaty and worried about what I looked like. I knew something had to change.

“I started Slimming World and felt a real determination that I hadn’t before, I think my other attempts at weight loss I had just been kidding myself on a bit.

“I swapped my constant takeaways with healthier options, if I wanted a Big Mac I would just make my own version at home.

“It ended up tasting far better because it was fresh and I was using better ingredients, I didn’t even miss junk food.”

She added: “My mum being my Slimming World consultant gave me a big advantage, it meant she was always there to help me.

“The group she takes is so good it feels like a family, the support from them really got me through.”
