WOMEN with concerns over colposcopy delays have been offered support to cope with any anxiety leading up to the exam.

As previously reported as part of the Glasgow Times Don’t Fear the Smear campaign, there is a lengthy wait of up to 52 weeks for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde patients waiting for the follow-up procedure.

The exam is carried out when the human papillomavirus (HPV) has been detected during an initial smear test and further investigation is required.

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust has now launched a support session to help women with any questions they may have ahead of the procedure.

The meeting will be held virtually allowing everyone to attend no matter where they are based with two experienced colposcopy nurses on hand to lead the session.

Questions can range from how to interpret results, what cell changes really mean or treatment options.

The event will take place on April 25 from 5.30pm with information on how to join is available here.

It comes ahead of the charity’s plea for help with fundraising this year.

As the warmer weather kicks in, thousands of athletically inclined campaigners will take to the streets, hop on their bikes or plunge into the water in a bid to raise cash for important causes.

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust has urged those taking part in events around Glasgow to do so for the charity which helps those battling the disease as well as dealing with concerns around smear tests.

As previously reported, the charity helps aid women struggling with the often-daunting procedure.

Ahead of a summer of races, the charity has released a list of events which can allow Glaswegians to help the charity in its plight by fundraising in its name.

Next month, a 160ft bungee jump will take place at the Riverside Museum with stunning views of the Glasgow Harbour from the UK Bungee Club.

The event will be repeated in July and September.

Similarly, the Glasgow Men’s 10k leaving from the Riverside Museum on June 18 and the Great Scottish Run 10k and half marathon races from George Square in October will also be able to act as a fundraising venture.

Those keen to get involved can find more information from Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust website.
