A MAN was charged after cops spotted his pendant knife necklace during a search.

William O’Donnell was in Govan police office on November 13, last year, for an unrelated matter.

The 31-year-old was being searched.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court this week, prosecutor Jeremy O’Neill said: “Police noted a necklace on the accused which resembled a knife sheath.

"The item had a 4cm blade.”

O'Donnell appeared in court charged with having the pendant knife with finger grips in a public place.

An image of the item was shown to Sheriff Patricia Pryce by O’Donnell’s lawyer.

The defence solicitor said: “It was the size of a pound coin. It was worn as a necklace.

“He had been arrested for a warrant in relation to a breach of a community payback order.”

Sheriff Pryce told O’Donnell: “This is a serious matter. You’ve already got a section 49 (having an item with a blade or point in a public place) on your record.

“I will deal with this by alternative to custody through unpaid work.”

O’Donnell, from Pollok, was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
