SquareMeal has released its list of Top 100 restaurants in the UK and six Glasgow establishments have made the list.

SquareMeal is the UK’s leading independent restaurant guide and it deliberately excludes London restaurants to allow venues from around the UK to be recognised.

Placing 14th and top for Glasgow is Cail Bruich on Great Western Road. Cail Bruich translates to “eat well”, something this restaurant evidently provides as in 2021 won the city's first Michelin star in 16 years.

Next is Unalome by Graeme Cheevers on Kelvingrove Street. Unalome celebrates Scottish produce with Cheevers’ Asian-inspired technique to create a unique, eclectic tasting menu.

In 61st place is Bar Brett on Great Western Road. A modern wine bar and BBQ restaurant, this winner comes from the same team as Cail Bruich, and another winner on Great Western Road.

62nd place is taken by Gloriosa, on Argyle Street in Kelvinhaugh. SquareMeal calls Gloriosa a “multi-faceted venue”, with its offerings of a restaurant, coffee shop, deli, off-licence and florist.

Previously the pizza restaurant Firebird, a rebranding in 2019 saw owner Derek Sutherland enter into new partnership with Lily Brown and Rosie Healy.

Julie’s Kopitiam in Shawlands places 90th on the list. A Malaysian style restaurant serving street food that is owned and run by former MasterChef quarterfinalist Julie Lin Macleod.

In 96th place is the East End newcomer, Celentano's, run by husband and wife Dean and Anna. It is set in the iconic Cathedral House. According to Squaremeal, the menus come in an organised, traditional Italian structure, with sections of snacks, antipasti, pasta, mains, sides and desserts.
