A DAD has blasted cinema bosses after he was refused entry to a family film with his young daughters because he was carrying a guitar.

Graham MacIver says his Daisy, seven, was left in tears after managers threatened him with security staff.

Graham and wife Fiona had promised Daisy and her sister Molly, 13, a trip to Cineworld in Glasgow city centre to see The Secret Life of Pets.

However, he was stunned when a member of staff him he couldn’t take his acoustic guitar into the auditorium for ‘health and safety’ reasons.

The family had bought tickets for the 2.15pm screening of the movie last Saturday but left without seeing the film.

Graham said: “As part of my 50th birthday I was given a voucher so I bought a guitar and I had just picked it up.

“It was in a soft guitar case and it’s quite small, smaller than Daisy.

“So we arrived and Fiona was in the queue buying the tickets.

“A member of staff came up and asked me if I was going to see a film. She said: ‘You can’t get in with that.’

“I actually said to her, ‘Are you having a laugh?’ She said no, it was for health and safety reasons and that is could block the aisle in an emergency.

“I actually didn’t know what to say. I was rendered speechless.

“I asked if I could sit next to a wall and said I would leave it there, if there was an emergency but she said no.

“I asked her if I could leave it somewhere and she said, ‘Buchanan Bus station.’ By this time Fiona had bought the tickets.

“I then asked to speak to the manager and he repeated the same thing.”

Graham, who lives in Lochwinnoch, in Renfrewshire, and works as a filmmaker, questioned why there were no signs warning cinemagoers about the size restriction. The manager told him it was listed in the terms and conditions.

However, customer are only advised not to "obstruct aisles with belongings."

He said: “I was coming in for a family day. I’m not going to be scrutinising the terms and conditions.

“It’s really not the staff’s fault, I know they are in the firing line.

“I was really angry and said: ‘Well who is going to stop me?’ and they said they would have security remove me.

“Then my wee girl started crying and I just thought, that’s enough. I don’t want to proceed with this.

“I had to go outside, I was so angry.

“People bring in shopping bags that are probably bigger than my guitar.

“Thank you Cineworld for making a small child cry. (Daisy is still worried that Security are going to come to take me away..) and for spoiling our day.”

A spokesman for Cineworld said: "In order to comply with health and safety legislation, we ask customers not to obstruct the aisles with personal belongings.

"Health and safety is very important to us but we’re sorry the customer didn't enjoy his experience.

"We provided him with a full refund and hope to see him again soon."
