A multi-million pound boost for economy has been predicted by experts after the Old Firm were paired together in yesterday's Scottish Cup semi-final draw.

The Glasgow clubs will either play on April 16 or 17, and betting on the match between Mark Warburton’s Rangers and Ronny Deila’s Celtic will top £10million while pubs are expected to face a huge surge in trade.

Footie finance guru Neil Patey told The Scottish Sun said: “It will rake in a lot of money. You’ve got 50,000 fans out for a good time at the match and thousands more across the country watching it in pubs.”

Mr Patey, a partner at Ernst and Young, added: “There will be a lot spent at the bookies, in bars and on tickets. It’s a boost.”

Paul Waterson, chairman of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association, said that the Hampden semi  was “brilliant news” for pubs.

He added: “The game’s great for business. We’ll be busy across the country whatever happens.”

Bookies are also expecting huge global interest on the clash.

William Hill spokesman Tony Kenny said: “We are expecting an industry wide turnover of around £10million will be wagered.”
