COPS are hunting for a group of St Mirren supporters who sang "religiously offensive" songs on a train.

The fans were travelling between Edinburgh and Glasgow after the team's 0-1 win over Livingston on Saturday.

Passengers on 5.47pm service from Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Central complained to police.

The same group were also "chanting and singing religiously offensive and illicit songs" at Livingston South station.

British Transport Police said the train was delayed because of disruption caused by the fans.

Constable Christopher Sutherland, the BTP officer in charge of the inquiry, has appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

A BTP spokesman said: "Around 6pm on Saturday October 17, the group of around 10 men boarded the 5.47pm Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Central service and are reported to have continued to chant and sing religiously offensive and illicit songs throughout the journey.

"As a result of their behaviour train services were delayed.

"CCTV from on the train and stations will be reviewed."
