A POLISH fugitive convicted of sexually abusing a young girl may be hiding out in Glasgow.

Krzysztof Zalewski, 32, went on the run while awaiting trial in connection with sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl.

He was found guilty in his absence of five charges of sexual activity with a child and jailed for seven years.

Now the focus of the international manhunt has switched to Glasgow after police received in intelligence about the beast.

He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, following the trial at Leicester Crown Court.

TV viewers watched as an appeal for information about Zalewski was boradcast on BBC Crimewatch last night.

Presenter Martin Bayfield said: "Krzysztof Zalewski was due to stand trial in September 2014 for five counts of sexual activity with a 13-year-old child, but he never turned up in court.

"He was found guilty in his absence and sentenced to seven years in prison.

"Zalewski is 32 and has a distinctive tattoo on his left arm.

"He has links to Leicester and Poland, but may also be in Glasgow.

Zalewski had sex with the young girls just days after returning from his honeymoon in his native Poland.

During the two-day trial, the court heard Zalewski, who lived in Leicester, abused the girl on two separate occasions.
